If you have just turned your back to the wind and built a hotel of only snow and ice, that under its first years attracted about 150 guests, then there is no doubt that the next step is to include a bar in the concept. In 1993, the founders of ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden built a little bar in the hotel.Everything from the bar counter to furniture was made of ice from the Torne River. The world had seen its first ICEBAR. Even ice glasses would be invented only a few years later.

This makes us the world’s most experienced ice pioneers.The genuine heritage, wilderness and pure Swedish Torne River ice can not be presented by anyone else and is also the core to our newest franchise concept – ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL.This bar concept features crystal clear ice in a setting in which good design is a priority, making it more than simply a bar. ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL is a franchise concept built on years of experience and from listening to guests, partners and bar franchisees.With this concept we’re taking the whole idea of bars made of ice and snow a step further. The interior incorporates the latest technology in lighting, sound and video, brought to us by our partner Philips.

The menu, which is specific to each location, features drinks served in glasses made from Torne River ice, hot beverages and light meals with a touch of the Arctic.This is a bar visit that bids momentary sensations and that will touch all of your senses.

The first ever ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL was launched in Copenhagen, Denmark in April 2009 with the theme Purity with a Twist. The new bar was marketed with a viral where the drummer Robert Robban Ericsson of the Swedish hard rock band Hellacopters rips a solo on a drum set of ice. The film takes place in the ice storeroom at ICEHOTEL Production and has been shown over 900 000 times on YouTube and received close to 2000 rankings.

The drum solo also stirred international interest and in May 2009 was exhibited at the Val-de-Marne Museum of Contemporary Art in Paris at the same time the French film festival Cinemages at Toulon took contact and wanted to show the film.

Once a year leading international artists are invited to create experimental interiors and sculptures thereby recreating the entire setting.Today ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL exists in Oslo,Copenhagen and Tokyo.In the future new locations will be selected in prominent cities of the world, all focusing on presenting a unique and memorable experience.
